Here is our daily look at what’s making news in sports media…some items are obvious, others not so much…

This in late this afternoon that Rick Reilly will be hosting his own show on ESPN, beginning this Friday and running for six episodes.  It will be interesting to see how Reilly handles these long-form interviews.  The thing that bugs me is how the WWL has a penchant for coming up with new shows and giving them limited runs.  Case in point is E60, a very good journaistic product that now airs on a limited basis.  If ESPN is serious about producing more enterprising programs, they need to stick with them longer to allow them to build up a following.

The Sports Media Guide has an enlightening interview with NY Times Sports Editor Tom Jolly.  There are quite a few tidbits to chew on as you read this, indlucing;

We are a Web-first publication. Everything goes on the Web before it goes into print. Breaking news always has the priority, but on quiet days we strategically post enterprise and feature stories on the Web to give our readers something fresh when they come back to our site.

and

We’re constantly evaluating how we do things and why. For instance, not many years ago, half of our reporters were assigned to cover specific teams in the New York area. Now, only a few are assigned to local teams; others are writing about issues like doping, science and business. Even those who are covering local teams are writing more analytically about those teams than about the games they play.

After you’re done here, check out the entire interview.  It’s interesting to see how “The Gray Lady” has adapted with changes in the industry.

Here’s another interview, conducted by Spinal Column Online with Detroit sports talker Mike Stone.

Have you got some talent to entertain thousands of people?  Well the Braves’ AAA affiliate is looking for a stadium emcee..
