I’m at work today and one of my employees enters my office and asks the following: “What else did the Patriots’ get for trading their first round pick? I just heard they traded it to the Saints for their tenth pick (in the first round)”
Stunned over the development I scoured the web to see if I could find details of the trade. I could not. I then asked my colleage where he heard the news. He said it was just reported on ESPN’s First Take. I continued my online search and could not find any details on the move, not even on ESPN.com!
In tuning in to First Take I joined the program as they were finishing up the first 10 picks of their mock draft. And in their scenerio, they had the Pats trading their pick to the Saints. Who the hell does this?
I have never been a fan of mock drafts, because more times than not they are an exercise in futility. The mocks never resemble the reality. I am also a football fan that does not care who the Colts are thinking of selecting with their fourth round pick. If there ever was a “get a life” sporting event, following every move of a professional league draft is it. Unless you work for a club, why the hell waste all that time?
Anyway, I understand the allure of these mock drafts for fans and they are harmless. But in putting them together, please stick to the current draft order. Don’t assume trades will be made. My friend caught the First Take mock draft in mid-segment and their discussion led him to believe a trade had been made. Heaven help him if he were a Saints’ fan. What a let down that would have been.
