Gumbel’s Decision a Wise One

Bryant Gumbel yesterday resigned as the play-by-play voice of the NFL Network.  It was a good decision on his part.

Gumbel received much criticism during his two seasons behind the NFL Network mic.  In the few times I was able to watch him in action, he never seemed comfortable in trying to describe the action on the field.   He even acknowledged that he had struggled in the booth.

Gumbel has always been better suited to hosting studio programs.  I hope that this two year stint will not undermine what has been a solid broadcasting career.
