What They’re Saying, January 29, 2008

Should be a busy week for this column as many of the leading sports media columnists descend upon Glendale, AZ for the Super Bowl. Let’s see what’s on their minds today…

First, some real life issues to put everything into perspective. We join the rest of the sports media world in sending out our thoughts and prayers to Bob Ryan of the Boston Globe on the loss of his son in Pakistan. David Scott has more. Also get well to Michael Wilbon after the Washington Post and ESPN reporter suffered a mild heart attack. Paulsen at Sports Media Watch has the information.

Neil Best at Newsday has the story of the record number of media credentials issued for this year’s big game.

Over at the NY Daily News Bob Raissman prepares himself for the mess that is Super Bowl Media Day.

Richard Sandomir at the NY Times decides to focus on news at home with a short piece about the media future of David Cone.

Bob Wolfley of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel discusses a “best of all time list” and has a piece on the ratings success of Super Bowls.

Tom Hoffarth of the LA Daily News has news about the other “Bowl” taking place in Arizona this week.

FYI…With this being the biggest sports media week of the year we hope to have our pulse on what is happening in Glendale without being there. We plan to speak with one of the 4700 credentialed media about his experiences at the Super Bowl. Check back for our podcasts all week long!
