In years past the college football bowl season wrapped up on New Year’s Day. Now there are five games after the first if the year, culminating, of course with the BCS Championship game January 7th.
For the second straight season the GMAC Bowl is being played the day before the big game. This year’s match-up between Bowling Green State University and the University of Tulsa is the 10th edition of the game held each year in Mobile, AL.
So let’s get a preview by looking at how the local media covering the two teams see the game…
Bowling Green State University (8-4)
The Falcons earned their berth to the game representing the MAC by winning their last four games of the season. Check out how the team is preparing directly from it’s web page. The BG News has its pulse on the news of the team on campus. WFAL is the campus radio station.
The University is located in Bowling Green, OH and is serviced by the Sentinel-Tribune. The paper has coverage of the team through it’s sports section.
The closest metropolitan area to BGSU is Toledo. There may be some Falcon talk on sports radio station WLQR. Listen to the game on the Falcon Sports Radio Network.
I doubt there will be much local TV coverage of the Falcons from the Toledo media. In case there is, check out WNWO, WTOL, WTVG and WUPW.
A quick search of the web did not yield any significant BGSU sports blogs. If any fell through the cracks, let us know in the comments section.
University of Tulsa (9-4)
The Golden Hurricane come into the game as the Conference USA runner-up and winners of five of their last six. The team’s web page has all the inside scoop on the game. News on campus is handled by The Collegian student newspaper. Public Radio station KWGS is located at the University.
The Tulsa World is the local newspaper that serves the region. Get the latest on the game from the paper’s sports section or the University’s dedicated sports page.
If there is any Golden Hurricane talk on sports radio, you’ll probably find it on KTBZ.
On television, the Golden Hurricane are followed by stations KJRH, KOKI, KOTV and KTUL.
As with BGSU we could not find any Tulsa dedicated sports blogs.
It has been a blast for us to bring you these bowl previews. We hope you took time to check out the various sports media outlets before and after the game.
