Game Preview- Univ. Of Delaware vs. Southern Ill. Univ.
December 7, 2007 | by Keith | Categories Internet, Newspapers, Sports Radio | Comments Off
If you think there is no college football for you this weekend, well…you’d be wrong. The lower divisions of the NCAA are in the midst of their playoffs and there is plenty of action to enjoy.
The Football Champion Subdivsion (Division IAA) is holding their national semifinals. One of the match-ups features the University of Delaware and Southern Illinois University.
Finding local coverage of these two schools was a challenge. But if you thirst for a preview, we have some options to get you set for the game.
University of Delaware (10-3)
The Blue Hens have a tradition of D-IAA football success. You can find out the latest on the team by visiting the University’s Athletic Department website.
The University is located in Newark, Delaware. It’s proximity to Wilmington gives it the opportunity to be covered by those in the state capital. You can get Blue Hen coverage in print through the Newark Post, the Wilmington News Journal, and the campus run Review.
Sports radio in Delaware? Well you have to rely on WIP in Philadelphia and I doubt they are spending much time on the Blue Hens. You can listen to Blue Hen games on WDSD and there may be coverage on campus radio station WVUD.
I haven’t been able to find any sports blogs dedicated exclusively to the Blue Hens. If you know of any, send them to me or add them to your comments.
Southern Illinois University (12-1)
The Salukis are better known for their prowess on the basketball court but for 2007 they are one of the favorites on the gridiron. Hosting this game definitely gives them an edge. Find out more from the athletic department’s website.
SIU is housed in Carbondale, Ill, in the far southern tip of the state. The University is many miles away from the media markets in St. Louis and Chicago. The local newspaper is the Southern Illinoisian. Believe it or not, there is also mention of the team on the Chicago Tribune website. On campus the Daily Egyptian has the game covered.
Unlike at Delaware, there is no sports radio of note near SIU. You may find out about the game on campus radio station WIDB.
Linked to the SIU athletic website you will find Dawg Tracker, an SIU sports blog.
Now that you’re prepared, grab your pom-poms and enjoy the game!
